If you’re a Maine resident who has owned a home here for at least 12 months, you may be eligible for a $20,000 property tax exemption. You must be a permanent resident of Maine and declaring the property as your permanent residence. All applications must be received by your local tax assessor by April 1. This is an easy way for you to save money on your property taxes year after year. Send in your application once, and the exemption will be applied every year. If you move within the state, simply send the form into your new town tax office to have the exemption applied there. Don’t delay. Send in your application now!
